MS02 – Gundam Build… Divers?

In our second minisode, we briefly discuss the history of a strange artifact of anime’s slow transition to the US, as well as an exciting announcement from Sunrise, the studio behind Gundam.

Next week: Sailor Moon R: The Lost Episodes

E58 – Sailor Moon R Part 2

Serena never gets a break, does she? She’s constantly berated by her friends, her cat, her boyfriend dumps her, and now even a girl from the future is giving her crap.

Yep, life is tough for a Sailor Scout, and things only get tougher. Meanwhile, Michael absurdly compares Sailor Moon villains to those from Zeta Gundam, Peter reveals a strange choice of introduction for a new character, and both hosts try to determine what Darien’s problem is.

Also included: Zeta Gundam naming conventions, a disturbing lack of Melvin, and the craziest monster-of-the-week death of all time.

Next week: Minisode 2, where we discuss the American Sailor Moon live-action/animation hybrid, and take topic suggestions from listeners like you.

Sailor Moon R Part 3 will release on February 14.

Also included: Hunkmeister or Dweebmeister, Hunkamania, Alan’s creepiness

The Future

Announcing that the podcast is moving to a fortnightly release schedule for 2018. Episodes like the ones we’ve already recorded will be dropping every other week, beginning on January 3rd. Release time will remain unchanged, at 3 PM PST.

In the off-weeks we’ll be recording minisodes about 15 minutes in length discussing more specific topics.

Our social media schedule will also be changing, so expect some hiccups in our non-podcast updates over the coming weeks.

Rest assured, we’re not going anywhere.  Next week we’ll be tackling the first 13 episodes of Sailor Moon R.

E56 – G-Saviour

To celebrate a meaningless milestone, Michael and Peter watch a live-action Gundam movie. That’s right, it’s G-Saviour.

Mark Curran cheats on his wife, but he’s still the good guy. Meanwhile, Michael shares the story of how he acquired the DVD, Peter compares the movie to a SYFY original, and both hosts try to make sense of how bio-luminescence factors into the food-shortage plot.

Also included: G Gundam anticipation, an explanation of Bandai’s “Big Bang” project, the starting date of the Universal Century calendar

Next time: Sailor Moon R

E55 – Batman The Animated Series Part 5

Batman’s… a ROBOT!?

Ro-Batman discovers his true identity as we finish the first broadcast season of Batman The Animated Series. Meanwhile, Michael surprises himself by liking a potentially terrible episode, Peter plugs Heart of Ice, and both hosts discuss Harley Quinn.

Also included: behind the scenes with Batman, Harley Quinn’s response to catcalling, an ice pun

Next episode: G-Saviour

[NOTE: at 28:50, we have a brief discussion about abuse narratives as they relate to Harley Quinn and Joker in the episode “Harley and Ivy”. It is also marked as a chapter, “Abuse Narratives re: Harley Quinn and Joker”. If you may find this content distressing, please skip ahead to 32:24, or the chapter labelled “Thoughts Overall”. Thank you for listening.]

E54 – Batman The Animated Series Part 4

Batman fights a werewolf. No, it isn’t a direct-to-DVD bootleg, this actually happens.

While Penguin enjoys some opera, Michael talks up some weird visuals in a Riddler episode, Peter is tired of Man-Bat, and both hosts discuss the dark end of Clayface.

Also included: Penguin’s All That, bootleg Martian Manhunter, Killer Croc’s boasting

Next week: Batman TAS S2E25-S3E09

E53 – Batman The Animated Series Part 3

Batman withholds information from Robin, in the name of protecting him. Surely, this won’t lead to trouble down the road…

Meanwhile, Michael talks about his thoughts on Justice League, Peter feels corporate villains getting away with everything is a little too real, and both hosts try to figure out what went wrong with “Cat Scratch Fever”.

Also included: Batman’s no-kill policy, our villain alter-egos, Bruce Wayne in high school

Next episode: Batman The Animated Series S2E12 – E24

E52 – Batman The Animated Series Part 2

Batman’s rogue’s gallery continues to grow as we get two fantastic origin stories.

The Caped Crusader has his work cut out for him cleaning up the streets of Gotham. Meanwhile, Michael takes a moment to discuss the sympathetic nature of villains in this show, Peter confesses that he would wear the Batman & Robin Mr. Freeze costume, and both hosts highlight some unorthodox episodes.

Also included: Which pro wrestler would make a good Batman villain, the best line of the series (so far), Peter ragging on Killer Croc
