E47 – Dragon Ball Z Part 8

The final battle between Goku and Frieza begins, and it would cool if it didn’t take so long.

As Goku punches Frieza and vice versa, Michael discusses the supposed death of Frieza, Peter talks about a Master Roshi figurine he once bought, and both hosts find they really prefer the Japanese episode titles.

Also included: Catching Up With Kai, The Big Green Wedding, Vegeta and Goku/Romeo and Mercutio

E46 – Dragon Ball Z Part 7

Pop quiz: who’s the best character to wish back to life, of these options: Yamcha, Tien, Chiaotzu, or Piccolo? If you said “anyone other than Piccolo is a joke!” you were correct.

On Namek, things are starting to heat up as Frieza finally fights our heroes. Meanwhile, Peter feels anxious about Namekian Eternal Dragon Porunga’s impatience, Michael again talks about his appreciation for Frieza, and both hosts compare the Frieza fight to the duration of entire other series.

Also included: reactions to extreme power levels, other shows we’d like to watch, Tequila Gundam

E45 – Dragon Ball Z Part 6

We return to Dragon Ball Z and find it much like we left it: tediously slow and occasionally hilarious.

Goku finally arrives on Namek, and starts burning through the Ginyu Force like we always knew he would. Meanwhile, Michael shares an anecdote about Philadelphia, Peter defines different types of filler, and both hosts struggle with the knowledge of how long the fight against Frieza is going to last.

Also included: alternate names for Namek, a proposed one-act play, and the dub transition

E44 – Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might

Gohan befriends a cute dragon while the world burns.

The Z Fighters are up to their usual tricks: watching Goku beat the bad guys. Meanwhile, Michael discusses the strange history of the Tree of Might dub and its censorship, Peter talks about mugs, and both dunk on the villain’s goon squad.

Also included: the diminishing returns of Dragon Ball Z movies, the mascot cuteness scale, and Michael’s low standards for DBZ goons

E36 – Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone

There is a lot of wordless screaming in this movie. And courtesy of Scott McNeil, a decent amount of it could be used by a metal band.

In a rare re-revisitation, Michael and Peter see if their impression of Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone has changed whatsoever. Michael speculates on the inclusion of Gohan’s drunken hallucination, Peter points out that Garlic Junior looks exactly like the goblins in Chrono Trigger, and both consider that Garlic Junior is possibly the most effective Dragon Ball Z villain.

Also included: Scooby-Doo/DBZ crossover, Goodfellas garlic preparation, and another reference to Power Rangers monster of the week Shellshock

The World's Strongest

(REPOST) E01 – Dragon Ball Z: The World’s Strongest

[NOTE: This is a re-upload of a previously posted episode, with correctly calibrated audio.  ReBoot Part 4 will be up June 21, 15:00 PST as per the usual release schedule]

In our first episode, Michael and Peter discuss the Dragon Ball Z movie The World’s Strongest, and consistently drop the “The” from the title.

E23 – Dragon Ball Z Part 5

The Ginyu Force finally lands, and even Frieza doesn’t know what to make of them.

Meanwhile, Michael and Peter discuss the impact of filler and censorship on Dragon Ball Z.  Peter makes a comparison between Bulma’s miscategorization of a Frieza soldier and a bizarre scene from a bizarre porn, and Michael admits that Dragon Ball Z is a pretty silly show.

Also included: a discussion of Spider-Man Cartoon Maker, Senzu Bean hummus, and the difficulty of finding anything on Namek.

Next week: Jonny Quest vs. The Cyber Insects

E22 – Dragon Ball Z Part 4

With the introduction of arch-villain Frieza, Michael and Peter break down a surprisingly plot-intensive and tension-heavy block of Dragon Ball Z.

Meanwhile, Goku resets to his default game of catch-up, Michael tries to explain why Frieza was such an iconic villain for him as a child, and Peter talks Pogs.

Also included: a discussion of various collectible card games, a rare double-or-nothing bet, and a second Commando reference in a row.

Next week: Dragon Ball Z episodes 41-50

E21 – Dragon Ball Z Part 3

Goku finally arrives to fight Nappa and Vegeta, and we’re treated to the first Dragon Ball Z fight that feels like it needs to last multiple episodes.

Peter and Michael theorize on why the final episodes of this block feature Namek Dragon Balls the size of Earth Dragon Balls, while Michael explains what hooked him about Dragon Ball Z in the first place, and Peter breaks down the “We’re Back 2: We’re Back We’re Back” reference for the first time (hopefully).  Also featured: a bad Moltar impression, random musing on past series we’ve watched, and a change to how we place our bets.

Next week: Dragon Ball Z episodes 31-40

E20 – Dragon Ball Z Part 2

In the second batch of Dragon Ball Z episodes, Michael and Peter find themselves forced to contend with Nappa getting blown up only to be totally unharmed, time and time again.  It gets a little exhausting.

Meanwhile, Michael makes an unfortunate comparison between Nappa’s “LASER EYES!” and Piccolo’s Special Beam Cannon, Peter boasts about winning seemingly every over-under bet, and both hosts discuss the chilling connection between The Secret World of Alex Mack and Capri Sun commercials from around the same time.
