MS15 – Aura Battler Dunbine

When giant robots and fantasy collide, we apparently end up with a guy driving a motorcycle behind a bunch of unicorn-mounted cavalry.

This week in Tomino month, we take a look at Aura Battler Dunbine, an odd show that takes place below the surface of the earth.

Mobile Suit Gundam Part 3 will release on August 15th

MS14 – Fang of the Sun Dougram

Fang of the Sun Dougram, a show about a kid who learns how to pilot a giant robot and uses it to fight relatively realistic battles against the sinister Earth Federation. Sound familiar?

This week, Michael and Peter discuss a descendant of Mobile Suit Gundam, and another example of the Real Robot Genre.

Meanwhile, Michael admits his bias in favor of Gundam, Peter questions how landmarks like the Grand Canyon ended up with slightly different names, and both hosts reveal that they have partly-assembled Gundam model kits on their desks.

Yeah, we’re dorks.

Mobile Suit Gundam Part 1 will release on July 18th.

MS12 – Voltus V

Five teenagers. Five vehicles. One giant robot. Stop me if you’ve heard this one.

This week, we watched a terribly produced compilation of Voltes V made for American audiences. Why didn’t Toonami show more super robot stuff?

“One secret agent trained to fly like a bird in the hand is greater than five in the bush.” – Galactor, probably

This week, Michael and Peter track down the elusive G-Force: Guardians of Space, the overlooked middle child of several attempts to localization Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. Meanwhile, Michael opens the can of worms that is the dub history of Gatchaman, Peter checks out an episode of Gatchaman itself, and both hosts cringe at the antics of 7-Zark-7.

Also included: a roll-call of localization companies, uranium obsession, the dissonance of 70s animation and brutal violence

The Intruder will release on July 4

MS11 – Beast Machines

Nothing says “writing a direct sequel” like being forbidden from watching the original show.

This week, Michael and Peter discuss the totally atonal sequel to Beast Wars.

NOTE: The three-part “Revelations” episodes Michael was referring to are actually episodes 7-9, rather than episodes 6-8 as claimed.
