E136 – Ɐ Gundam Part 1

Called Turn “A” Gundam.

A boy is sent to earth, and humanity once again throws itself into a self-destructive war for territory and technology. Meanwhile, Michael appreciates the political angle of the show, Peter warms to the mustached Gundam, and both hosts discuss the cost of war beyond the loss of life.

Also included: Michael pulls out a relic from the Dark History, the show’s bizarre opening, extremely high-stakes Freaky Friday

Ɐ Gundam Part 2 will release March 10th

E134 – Dragon Ball Part 1

CONTENT NOTICE: Unfortunately, Dragon Ball has a LOT of humor based on sexual harassment and assault (we are NOT fans, for the record), so please proceed with caution.

An indestructible monkey boy and a vain teenage genius set out on a quest to find the seven magic Dragon Balls that can grant any wish.

For all the trouble they go through, these characters have some pretty basic wishes. Meanwhile, Michael is forced to reckon with his childhood in an uncomfortable way, Peter tries to find the silver lining, and both hosts struggle to explain the events of the show without sounding like total creeps.

Also included: “henchmens”, stanning for the Pilaf gang, Dragon Ball’s loose continuity

Dragon Ball Part 2 will release February 10th

E132 – Record of Lodoss War Conclusion

A Cursed Island no longer, just a cursed show.

Spark’s journey reaches its conclusion, while our attention is constantly diverted to other characters reacting to the things Spark is actually dealing with. Meanwhile, Michael rants about the robotic interactions between the characters, Peter finds another in the few shows he unequivocally dislikes, and both hosts breathe a sigh of relief that it’s finally over.

Also included: animatronic flirting, overprotective dad villains, Star Wars: A New Hope as the adventures of Obi-Wan Kenobi

Masters of the Universe New Year’s Special will release January 13th

E131 – Record of Lodoss War

Prepare to enter a world of myth and legend, and you will be hearing about them, whether you want to or not.

Parn, the free knight, embarks on a number of adventures on the island of Lodoss. Meanwhile, Michael is bothered by strange adaptational choices, Peter encounters a dub that reminds him why he doesn’t watch dubbed anime, and both hosts are baffled by a deluge of flashbacks.

Also included: Reactor revisited, the strange origins of Record of Lodoss War, the problems with adapting roleplaying games into TV shows

Record of Lodoss War Conclusion will release December 30th

E129 – Outlaw Star Part 1

[Insert stoner-philosophy diatribe about growing up, space, or just a random character’s backstory here]

Gene Starwind sets off into space to find his fortune, if only he could make enough money to get his ship off the ground. Meanwhile, Michael manages to appreciate how silly spaceships with swords are, Peter points out the show’s overall horniness, and both hosts praise the visuals, if not necessarily the plot or characters.

Also included: recasting with characters from a very different franchise, spaceships with guns vs. mechs with guns, the shadow of Homer Simpson

Outlaw Star Conclusion will release December 2

E121 – Transformers: Armada Part 1

The inevitable result of a show’s dub premiering before the show itself.

Autobots and Decepticons continue their eternal war, this time over smaller transformers that supposedly don’t want to be a part of it. Meanwhile, Michael is dumbfounded by the lack of characterization for the Minicons, Peter explains why there are no honorable mentions despite the episodic nature of the show, and both hosts contemplate the possibility that the sequel series is even worse.

Also included: nonsensical dialogue exchanges, the Squeaky-Voiced Teen gets his series debut, is Hotshot prejudiced against Minicons?

Transformers: Armada Part 2 will release July 29

E120 – The Big O Part 2

A season co-produced by Cartoon Network doesn’t pull any punches, be they giant-robot sized and literal or simply mindbending twists.

Roger Smith wakes up in an alternate Paradigm City, where none of the trappings of this show exist. It kind of makes sense, once things wrap up. Meanwhile, Michael is frustrated by a comedy focused episode, Peter points out Michael’s tendency to say he “actually” likes something as though that’s uncommon, and both hosts caution about monumental spoilers.

Also included: playing with toys, Michael’s confusion with barely-related things, further argument as to whether “Red” Dorothy is a robot

Transformers: Armada Part 1 will release July 15

E119 – The Big O Part 1

What happens when everyone in the world loses their memory? No matter, giant robots are here to distract you!

Roger Smith is Paradigm City’s top negotiator, and don’t question what exactly that means. Meanwhile, Michael takes issue with what he considers the show’s stated concept, Peter praises the visual design, and both hosts suffer Big O related amnesia.

Also included: a startling lack of Rita Repulsa, trying to describe Big O’s arms, “Megadeus” vs. “Megadeuce”

The Big O Part 2 will release June 24

E115 – Batman Beyond Part 1

A teenage Batman? Surely you can’t be serious…

A new Batman is born from the murder of a loved one, though this time he has an older batman to mentor him. Meanwhile, Michael pontificates about a fandom issue that may only exist in his head, Peter praises the cyberpunk setting, and both hosts stan for Inque (am I using that phrase correctly?).

Also included: the problem with Destroyer Droids, Bruce’s potential psychological problems, parallels to AKIRA.

Batman Beyond Part 2 will release April 22

E113 – He-Man and the Masters of the Universe

This isn’t your daddy’s He-Man.

A screechy-voiced, ripped purple man with a skull for a face fights an equally ripped. loincloth-wearing man with a magic sword. Meanwhile, Michael appreciates Skeletor’s voice, Peter comments on He-Man’s willingness to kick things up a notch, and both hosts attempt to describe the extremely toyetic nature of the character design.

Also included: pointlessly transforming weapons, a theory on how an episode’s plotline was created by kittens, the odd connection between this show and The Secret of NIMH.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Part 2 will release March 25

NOTE: we incorrectly refer to episode 10 as “Dragon’s Blood”. The actual title is “Dragon’s Brood”.
