E61 – Tenchi in Tokyo Part 1



We’re back to Tenchi, but Tenchi’s trying to get away from everyone.

This week, Tenchi meets a new girl who immediately falls in love with him. Meanwhile, Michael recalls a specific episode from his childhood, Peter tries to describe an indescribable villain design, and both hosts wonder if Sakuya even exists outside of Tenchi’s eyeline.

Also included: the Platonic Ideal of cuteness, weirdness of “Harem” as a genre description, Ai Tenchi Muyo!: worth it or not?

Aliens steal energy from people to feed their tree. Sailor Scouts, stop this madness!

In this episode, Sailor Moon and her friends get their memories back. Except Darien. Meanwhile, Michael talks about villain interaction with the main cast, Peter questions an episode title, and both hosts theorize on the portrayal of Sailor Mini Moon.

Crazy to think we could have a Batman show that doesn’t start with an origin story, isn’t it? How are we supposed to know how he became Batman?

Supervillains wreak havoc on Gotham City, and only one man can stop them. Meanwhile, Michael reveals some less-than-informed old opinions about Batman TAS, Peter questions Penguin’s effectiveness, and both hosts remember what it’s like to look forward to watching a show.

Tenchi Universe starts out of the gate with repeated spaceship crashes, and from there… well…

We’re back to the adventures of a nondescript teenage boy pursued by six alien women. And it never stops being weird. Meanwhile, Peter compares Tenchi Unvierse to reality television, Michael vents his frustration with a glimpse of characterization, and both hosts wish one of the aliens pursuing Tenchi was a weird jellyfish monster.

Also included: Giant Scooby-Doo and his ability to clean up cotton candy, Animorphs, and the dark fate of Tenchi characters

E37 – Sailor Moon Part 1



Sailor Scouts, assemble! Well, just three of you so far, I guess.

Sailor Moon starts off with lectures and ends with a boring action scene involving grounded airplanes. What’s not to love? Meanwhile, Peter wonders what a computer contest is and how it could be won, Michael bitches about Luna, the Scouts’ cat advisor/wet blanket, and both contemplate the possibility that this show won’t get any more enjoyable.

Also included: Over the top Jersey accents, elemental superpowers, fully animated Space Jam, the elegant simplicity of Power Rangers

E31 – The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest Part 1



Jonny thinks to solve one problem by creating a way bigger one, Hadji doles out aphorisms (but hey, no Sim Sim Salabim!), and Jessie is surprisingly badass.

Meanwhile, Michael forgets the Home For Infinite Losers as well as revealing yet another trope pet peeve, Peter doubts the historical accuracy of Indiana Jones, and both shudder at the A E S T H E T I C S of QuestWorld.

Also included: the QuestWorld Reversal, racism in kid’s shows, and did we watch Moltar without remembering it?

In this episode, we introduce the possibility of rebooting our podcast, Peter talks about taking family beach vacations and watching ReBoot recorded on VHS instead of enjoying the beach, and Michael discovers another pet peeve about shows for children.

Also included: discussing canned sound effects that annoy us, the aging process of CGI, and the suggestion that Hexadecimal is a more iconic villain than the Joker.

E19 – Dragon Ball Z Part 1



Dragon, dragon, rock the dragon, Dragon Ball Z!

Taking the first steps towards reviewing the entirety of Dragon Ball Z, we find that it’s mostly filler, but not the kind we remembered.  Meanwhile, Michael raises old gripes about Dragon Ball Z action figures, and Peter finds some of Piccolo’s tough guy talk to be poorly chosen.

Taking a trip back further than usual, in this episode we discuss Robotech, a series with a strange history.  Michael confuses Roy and Rick, Peter quibbles about small changes, and both speculate on how melding three series that don’t share canon into one could possibly work out.
