E81 – Samurai Jack Part 4



Jack’s journey continues, before taking a long, long hiatus.

Some of Jack’s adversaries themselves have noble intentions, but that doesn’t matter much to the eponymous samurai. Meanwhile, Michael compares Jack to Batman, Peter is irritated by a baby, and both hosts agree on a recommendation.

Also included: different perspectives on villains, a fulfilled prophecy, and the redemption of the Scotsman.

This week, we watch the incredibly gory, post-apocalyptic crazyfest that is Fist of the North Star (the movie). And Streamline Pictures distributed it, so the voice acting adds to the film’s overall cheesy charm.

We learn the origins of the ancient evil known as Aku, and Jack befriends an annoying creature.

Aku can be a real jerk.

Jack continues his adventures, re-meeting the Scotsman, losing his clothes, and having to replace his footwear. Meanwhile, Peter reveals his emotional core, Michael tries to out-reference Samurai Jack, and both hosts wonder if the robots Jack is slaughtering are conscious beings.

Also included: Peter’s recollection of the end of Samurai Jack, why do any villains make deals with Aku, Demongo’s secret parents.

MS22 – The Castle of Cagliostro



A master thief tries to track down the source of extremely well made counterfeit bills, and becomes embroiled in an adventure involving a princess, a sinister count, and a fabled treasure.

This week we discuss The Castle of Cagliostro, and prescribe Michael some more Miyazaki movies to watch.

The opposite of Back to the Future.

A young samurai is thrown into the far future by an evil spirit called Aku, only to find that Aku has taken over the world and remade it in his own image. Meanwhile, Michael talks about the pitch for the show, Peter discusses his childhood memories, and both hosts are blown away by the artistry of Samurai Jack.

Also included: Akutown, A babbling pig sheriff, what separates Samurai Jack from Dragon Ball Z.

E77 – Pokemon Grab Bag



In the grips of Pokemania, can we regain enough sanity to talk about this show?

Ash Ketchum starts his big adventure, and boy is it hard to sit through. Meanwhile, Michael brings up the consciousness of Pokemon and related ethics, Peter cringes at childhood memories, and both hosts realize they now have to watch the shows on the Kids’ WB Toonami block.

Also included: Schrodinger’s Meowth, Gastly making bucks, Lifeless Pikachus.

Samurai Jack Part 1 will release on November 7th.


E76 – Yu Yu Hakusho Part 2



Yusuke and his friends continue solving crimes and spitting rhymes. Except the rhymes part.

After six months of training with Genkai, Yusuke is back, ready to take on his next mission. Meanwhile, Michael feels the show is playing a trick on him, Peter thinks the final battle with Suzaku may have taken a little long, and both hosts further come to grips with the fact that Dragon Ball Z wasn’t a very good show after all.

Also included: Death of Superman, Terminator Apparition, Michael’s scarring experiences.

E75 – Yu Yu Hakusho Part 1



Sometimes the one good deed you do in your life gets you killed.

For Yusuke Urameshi, death is just the beginning of a fantastical journey that will eventually return him to earth with cool powers. Meanwhile, Michael takes issue with some problematic jokes, Peter appreciates the impact of the violence, and both hosts agree that Kuwabara is the best character.

Also included: a new product that takes all the guesswork out of soul-stealing, an over-involved demon backstory, the world Kuwabara lives in.

Yu Yu Hakusho Part 2 will release on October 10th


E74 – Sailor Moon R: The Movie



When trouble takes root, the Sailor Scouts are there to weed it out (and other plant puns)!

A mysterious figure from Darien’s past arrives on earth to repay an old debt, and things quickly spiral out of control. Meanwhile, Peter compares Sailor Moon to a changing of the seasons, Michael defines “Sidestory Syndrome”, and both hosts argue over whether Sailor Moon is meant to have died in the end.

Also included: Peter’s feelings on a classic science fiction movie, Michael defends Pokemon: The Movie, Sailor V
