E118 – Batman Beyond Part 4

Who is it knocking off members of the Justice League Unlimited? Probably the one you least suspect…

Batman’s back to his old tricks, so no more High School stuff, and a whole lot more Justice League and also an international terrorist organization. Meanwhile, Michael corrects peter’s pronunciation of “Ra’s” and gets confused about when Batman begins came out, Peter doesn’t particularly like a brief batman musical, and both hosts conclude that Batman Beyond is a pretty solid visit.

Also included: Silver Fox Bruce *and* Superman, the flaws of bingeing episodic programming, a sign of Zeta (Project)

The Big O Part 1 will release June 18

NOTES: Click here to visit our BLM post, with several links to related charities.

Much less importantly, the episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation we discussed briefly is Season 5 Episode 6: The Game. Just watch the first ten minutes, you’ll see *exactly* what we were talking about.

E117 – Batman Beyond Part 3

Did Batman really kill Mad Stan? Hopefully not, because Mad Stan rips.

Terry catches a break from dealing with High School problems… mostly. Now it’s just mutant dogs, vengeful assassins, and a rogue government robot. Meanwhile, Michael recalls another childhood moment of trauma caused by DC, Peter suggests Nelson may have replaced Batman as the ultimate prey, and both hosts conclude that season 2 may have been a little too long.

Also included: False Face’s taser proficiency, The 101 Misdeeds of Nelson, Charlie Brown gets knee-chainsaws

Batman Beyond Part 4 will release May 20

E116 – Batman Beyond Part 2

Terry’s High School friends certainly seem to have a lot of Batman-sized problems.

Our new Batman finds another ally. Hopefully this one will be a little easier to deal with than Bruce Wayne. Meanwhile, Michael is annyed with the shift in focus to High School, Peter observes that he likes psychic episodes, and both hosts try to figure out who the “boring one” is, regarding presidents.

Also included: a stinging absence, Peter explains why he’s always hesitant to return to Batman, stanning Mad Stan.

Batman Beyond Part 3 will release May 6

E115 – Batman Beyond Part 1

A teenage Batman? Surely you can’t be serious…

A new Batman is born from the murder of a loved one, though this time he has an older batman to mentor him. Meanwhile, Michael pontificates about a fandom issue that may only exist in his head, Peter praises the cyberpunk setting, and both hosts stan for Inque (am I using that phrase correctly?).

Also included: the problem with Destroyer Droids, Bruce’s potential psychological problems, parallels to AKIRA.

Batman Beyond Part 2 will release April 22

E55 – Batman The Animated Series Conclusion

Batman’s… a ROBOT!?

Ro-Batman discovers his true identity as we finish the first broadcast season of Batman The Animated Series. Meanwhile, Michael surprises himself by liking a potentially terrible episode, Peter plugs Heart of Ice, and both hosts discuss Harley Quinn.

Also included: behind the scenes with Batman, Harley Quinn’s response to catcalling, an ice pun

Next episode: G-Saviour

[NOTE: at 28:50, we have a brief discussion about abuse narratives as they relate to Harley Quinn and Joker in the episode “Harley and Ivy”. It is also marked as a chapter, “Abuse Narratives re: Harley Quinn and Joker”. If you may find this content distressing, please skip ahead to 32:24, or the chapter labelled “Thoughts Overall”. Thank you for listening.]

E54 – Batman The Animated Series Part 4

Batman fights a werewolf. No, it isn’t a direct-to-DVD bootleg, this actually happens.

While Penguin enjoys some opera, Michael talks up some weird visuals in a Riddler episode, Peter is tired of Man-Bat, and both hosts discuss the dark end of Clayface.

Also included: Penguin’s All That, bootleg Martian Manhunter, Killer Croc’s boasting

Next week: Batman TAS S2E25-S3E09

E53 – Batman The Animated Series Part 3

Batman withholds information from Robin, in the name of protecting him. Surely, this won’t lead to trouble down the road…

Meanwhile, Michael talks about his thoughts on Justice League, Peter feels corporate villains getting away with everything is a little too real, and both hosts try to figure out what went wrong with “Cat Scratch Fever”.

Also included: Batman’s no-kill policy, our villain alter-egos, Bruce Wayne in high school

Next episode: Batman The Animated Series S2E12 – E24

E51 – Batman The Animated Series Part 1

Crazy to think we could have a Batman show that doesn’t start with an origin story, isn’t it? How are we supposed to know how he became Batman?

Supervillains wreak havoc on Gotham City, and only one man can stop them. Meanwhile, Michael reveals some less-than-informed old opinions about Batman TAS, Peter questions Penguin’s effectiveness, and both hosts remember what it’s like to look forward to watching a show.

Also included: Bat-steed, a discussion about Urkel, Batman & Kids

Next week: Batman TAS episodes 14-26

E41 – Batman: Mask of the Phantasm

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm reveals the Dark Knight’s origins, but at least we don’t have to see Tom and Martha getting shot for the billionth time.

As the Phantasm terrorizes Gotham mobsters, Michael examines his biases against the DCEU, and realizes the unenviable job of the people who are working on the franchise. Meanwhile, Peter compares Batman to major religious figures, and both consider the tools of pre-Batman vigilante Bruce Wayne.

Also included: repeated use of the phrase “the less said the better” referring to Batman’s more shameful media appearances, a pointless explanation of who Batman is, Will Smith’s Suicide Squad music video

Next episode: Tenchi Universe episodes 1-13

E12 – Batman and Mr. Freeze: SubZero

While discussing Batman’s second animated feature, Peter comes up with the best movie idea ever.  Meanwhile, Michael wonders if Batman’s backstory needs to be explained, and the two go off book for a moment to discuss the acting chops of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Next week: Robotech episodes 1-12.
